With its heavy illiminated waterdrops falling in slowmotion, Monolithe is a cinetic sculpture displaying the metamorphosis of water and the wonders of gravity. The poetry of the piece seems to be born from the ever changing quality of waterdrops, which Eigenmann has isolated and framed in marble, thereby magnifying them and turning them into a main actor of the theatre of the world. Highly based on perception, the Monolithe engages the viewer in an optical dialogue that carries the full emotional content of a natural phenomenon.

Helmut Eigenmann has been devoting his life to water, starting in 1982 as a scientist then shifting from 1991 into an artistic career. He has had a number of exhibitions in Germany, Swiss and Italy, one of the most important being the solo exhibition Waterdreams at the Venise Biennale in 1995.
