Galerie Maria Wettergren is pleased to announce the opening of our new space, located at 121 rue Vieille-du-Temple in Paris’ Marais district. The opening will take place on Thursday, September 10th, from 6pm to 9pm, in the presence of Mr. Michael Starbaek Christensen, Ambassador of Denmark in France. On the same occasion, we will equally celebrate the gallery’s 10-year anniversary. The inaugural exhibition, Nouvelle Vague, will present a selection of Scandinavian milestone works that have contributed to redefining the international art & design scene over the past twenty years with interdisciplinary works that combine high technology and craftsmanship in the fields of textile art, sculpture, furniture and lighting. The exhibition will centre around the organic and geometrics forms, and draw attention to pioneering women artists, especially in the field of textile art. Among the artists exhibited are Astrid Krogh, Louise Campbell, Ilkka Suppanen, Hanne Friis, Gjertrud Hals, Mathias Bengtsson, Cecilie Bendixen, Rasmus Fenhann and Tora Urup, just to mention a few. The interdisciplinary research into possible expressions related to material and technique seems to echo the Bauhaus school and the thinking of Walter Gropius: Architects, painters, sculptors, we must all return to crafts! For there is no such thing as “professional art”.
