Akiko Kuwahata found inspiration for Stitch in an old embroidery ring from Japan, which is made in delicate softwood and stitched together with cherry bark. With Stitch, she has attempted to create a set of furniture that is characterized by the same functional perfection of form as can be found in this ancient Japanese tradition.
The round table and the matching stool of the work Stitch are both made of 4 mm thick maple veneer. Both pieces are lightweight while remaining solid and strong. The Stitch underlines the various potentials of wood as a material ans sparks admiration for the technique and innovating aesthetics used for this piece.
