Astrid Krogh at LONGCHAMP, champs-Elysées, Paris

In 2014, Astrid Krogh was commissioned by Longchamp to create a sight specific art installation for their new flagship at the Champs-Elysées, in Paris, the biggest Longchamp store in Europe.

« Cloud Illusions » is a 100 m2 aluminum installation. By means of impregnations and perforations Astrid Krogh has created a landscape of an ever-changing character reminiscent to the clouds in the sky. The interaction of the work with the surrounding light is both strong and subtle, and the reflections of the softly moving light-shadows are constantly expanding towards the entire room. The soft quality of the material gives the viewer a feeling of a drapery which slightly vibrates in the wind while passing by.

While working on « Cloud Illusions », Astrid Krogh was listening to the soulful piece of music « Spiegel im Spiegel » (Mirror in Mirror) by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt over and over again (the button was on « repeat ») in order to control and work with the big reflecting surface of the mirror foil. Just as « Spiegel im Spiegel » this monumental triptych is poetically referring to the infinity of images produced by parallel plane mirrors: the tonic triads are endlessly repeated with small variations as if reflected back and forth.

The work was presented for the first time at the grand opening of the boutique on December 4th, 2014.
